WHAT IS A TELECLASS?
A teleclass is an instructional class conducted via a conference call. There will be an instructor and a number of participants (from 5 – 20). All you need is a regular phone (cell and internet phones are least preferred due to extra noise on the line) and a quiet place, if possible.
1.) SIGN UP
- Please register for any of our teleclasses a week ahead, if possible, in order for us to mail or email class information to you.
2.) SHOW UP – ON TIME!
- Please be on time so you don't miss anything. We will start promptly.
- If you need to cancel, please un-register by calling 1-800-557-1985 ext. Education.
3.) DIAL UP
- Cell phones can interfere with the teleclass so please don't use one if you have access to another phone.
- Dial the Toll Free access number within 2 minutes of the start of class. You can synchronize your clock at www.timeanddate.com. (Click on The World Clock and identify a city near you. We are on Detroit EST time.)
- Enter your passcode number. You will be automatically connected with our class. There is not an operator.
- Don't call the access number at any other time as there is "no one there".
4.) START UP / SPEAK UP
- When you come onto the call, you will be prompted to say your name and state you are calling from. If you are one of the first persons on the call you will hear music, so simply wait for the instructor to join you. Your name and state will automatically be announced to the class when we start.
- If you're late to the call just dial in and listen until you pick up on what's being discussed. After you state your name and state, when prompted, your name will automatically be announced to all of us.
- You may or may not be officially welcomed, depending on how far the teleclass leader is into the call. (But be sure you are welcome!)
- If you have to come into a call late, please be considerate about asking questions; as they may have already been answered.
- You will notice when other callers enter and exit the teleclass call, you will hear a beep on the line.
5.) MUTE UP
- Please, please, please use your telephone's mute button in order to not have the class hearbackground noise, the dog barking, radios, even breathing, etc. Noise could be a problem if callers (or even just one) aren't using their mute buttons. (Noise is the biggest challenge with teleclasses.)
- If you don't have a mute button, you can touch *6 on your phone to mute and un-mute OR please call from a quiet location and use something to cover your mouthpiece.
6.) BE UP
- The class is not a time to bring up your personal situation, but we may ask for your feedback, so please do interact with us.
- Be sure to un-mute when you speak, then mute again!
- We appreciate your short comments and interest.
7.) LISTEN UP
- Please don't multitask! It's tempting, we know…there's email to read, desks to clean, etc. And please avoid eating during the call.
- You'll get more out of the class if you are totally present and participating.
8.) HANG UP
- And finally (whew!) please do not hang up prior to the class actually ending. It's not respectful of others on the call when you hang up while we are still talking and sharing.
- All those hang up beeps are very distracting during the class.
